What Is Car Key Programming?
Since the mid-1990s, virtually all vehicles include an immobilizer system that prevents the engine from starting without a correctly programmed key. The chip inside the key must be "learned" to the car's ECU. Without this programming step, a correctly cut key will turn in the ignition but the engine will not start.
